Uruguay COVID Restrictions and Status (2022)

2022 has been a year of reactivation for trips all around the world, and Uruguay is no exception to that. As of right now there are no restrictions whatsoever to international travelers coming to Uruguay and that’s great news! Bye bye Uruguay COVID Restrictions!

What’s even better, it doesn’t matter if you are vaccinated against COVID-19 or not. So right now it’s a great time to visit Uruguay!

Uruguay is fully open for tourism!

However, there are a few new rules that travelers need to follow. Check out the list below and see which rules are applicable to you!

Online Health Declaration

All travelers arriving to Uruguay must fill out the Online Health Declaration 48 hours or less before arrival to the country. Click here to fill it out!

Non-uruguayan citizens

The following rules apply to all non-uruguayan citizens traveling to Uruguay:

  • All travelers need travel insurance with COVID-19 coverage upon arrival and it should be valid until all the stay.
  • Present one of the following documents depending on your status:
    • Proof of vaccination: People with full vaccination schedule (one or two shots of any COVID-19 vaccine as required by the vaccine type).
    • POSITIVE PCR-Test or Antigens test: People that have been through COVID-19 during the last 90 days and at least 10 days before arrival.
    • NEGATIVE PCR-Test or Antigens test: People that have not received a full vaccination schedule (either incomplete or unvaccinated).

Uruguayan Citizens

The following rules apply to all uruguayan citizens traveling to Uruguay:

  • Present one of the following documents depending on your status:
    • Proof of vaccination: People with full vaccination schedule (one or two shots of any COVID-19 vaccine as required by the vaccine type).
    • POSITIVE PCR-Test or Antigens test: People that have been through COVID-19 during the last 90 days and at least 10 days before arrival.
    • NEGATIVE PCR-Test or Antigens test: People that have not received a full vaccination schedule (either incomplete or unvaccinated).

COVID-19 Status for Uruguay

As of this writing, the COVID-19 Pandemic is considered to be under control in Uruguay and with a very low impact (less than 2000 new cases per week).

COVID-19 Homeland Restrictions

As of this writing there are no restrictions related to COVID-19 in Uruguay for any venue, public or private space. That means:

  • Face masks are NOT required either outside or inside (save for hospitals).
  • All venues (open or closed) can operate at full capacity.
  • It’s forbidden to require proof of vaccination to access any place or service, public or private.
  • No physical distancing is required in either open or closed spaces.
